The Blue Heart Sanctuary...
Horses and Ponies
We recognize there is a tremendous need for more horse sanctuaries. However, our property has the acreage available yet, presently lacks adequate pasture. One of our future goals is to create additional pastures so we can accomodate more horses and ponies in need. This venture will require additional clearing, seeding and fencing.
Initially rescued from a neglectful situation by our friends at Cheval Centre in Sarasota, Shadow was kept in a very small corral. He was emaciated and gravely ill from having several untreated abscessed teeth. His rehabilitation was lengthy and we were not sure if he would survive. We were determined and thankfully, he pulled through!
Shadow has the most kind and gentle spirit. He loves to be groomed and with some modifications to his feeding and supplementation schedule, today he continues to live a full and peaceful life at the Sanctuary.
Your donation of $100.00 provides for the care of one horse for one month.
A therapeutic riding center acquired Star and although there is not a mean bone in her body, the nature of the work that was being asked of her in working with the special needs children was not suitable for her. It is obvious to us that Star has a history of being abused prior to going to the therapy center. She has a truly sweet disposition and we are glad to offer her a place of love and peace at the Sanctuary.
Bought as a gift for a grandchild then left in a backyard so long her halter had grown into her head, Spice had all but been abandoned. She is a chronic founder case and we have to monitor her food intake closely to prevent future episodes. Spice adores attention and comes running whenever she sees the grooming tote come out.
